Crafted basket partners writer’s feet

beside large window, its body a criss-cross

of open tanned strips  of dried flax

  lodged in firm open relationship.

                            ……

Last summer enquirer left bike shared

road-side whilst tan skinned slim fingers

 prepped basket/harakeke allied to

kete/kit/ of black-edged reed cuttings.

                         ……..

Discerned shapes, contrived by a differing

form of palm measure, in diverse basket.

Plant twinned with ringed rim and feather,

of sanguine skittish ground level quail.

                      …………………..

Soft smart weavers hand smooths the fibre,

adroitly thinking of her tribe and lectures

for the future, as unforeseen stranger

approaches, parks bike and edges forward.

                   ……….

 With careful inquiry, visitor learns

what matters with plant and clan

weaving hands reflective muse to match.

I’d ask you over, but Mothers up!

                      ……….

At home the kit allows the feathers

on rim of basket to drop off and

 pattern carpet. Our partnerships

strengthen in the light today and

toward twilights of tomorrow!
